چکیده

Hence .0V is a quantity which can only increase with the time and may be regarded as the entropy of the universe. This quantity proves to be equivalent to the expression that Lenz took for the entropy of the Einstein universe, but, in general, the expression for the entropy of a system in a gravitational field does not reduce to so simple a form. 1 Tolman, R. C., these PROCzSDINGs, 14, No. 3, 268-272 (1928). 2 Lenz, W., Physik. Z., 27, 642-645 (1926). 8 Einstein, A., Berl. Ber., 448-459 (1918). 4See Eddington, A. S., The Mathematial Theory of Relativity, Cambridge, 1923, equations (69.21) and (69.22). 6 See Eddington, 1. c., equation (54.71). 6 See Eddington, 1. c., equations (54.81) and (54.82). TSee Eddington, equations (59.4), (58.1), (58.45) and (58.52). The additional term in X can easily be shown necessary where the full form of equation (6) is used. Compare Einstein, 1. c.

Einstein's theory of gravity and the problem of missing mass.

The observed matter in the universe accounts for just 5% of the observed gravity. A possible explanation is that Newton's and Einstein's theories of gravity fail where gravity is either weak or enhanced. The modified theory of Newtonian dynamics (MOND) reproduces, without dark matter, spiral-galaxy orbital motions and the relation between luminosity and rotation in galaxies, although not in clu...

Gravitational Radiation – Observing the Dark and Dense

Astronomical observations in the electromagnetic window – microwave, radio and optical – have revealed that most of the Universe is dark. The only reason we know that dark matter exists is because of its gravitational influence on luminous matter. It is plausible that a small fraction of that dark matter is clumped, and strongly gravitating. Such systems are potential sources of gravitational r...

Here, creation of the universe is obtained out of gravity only. The dy-namical universe begins with two basic ingredients (i)vacuum energy, also called dark energy (as vacuum energy is not observed) and (ii) background radiation. These two are obtained through one-loop renormalization of ric-cion. In the proposed cosmology, it is found that not only current universe expands with acceleration, b...

Thermodynamics of cosmological matter creation.

A type of cosmological history that includes large-scale entropy production is proposed. These cosmologies are based on reinterpretation of the matter-energy stress tensor in Einstein's equations. This modifies the usual adiabatic energy conservation laws, thereby including irreversible matter creation. This creation corresponds to an irreversible energy flow from the gravitational field to the...

The Case of the Curved Universe : Open , Closed , or Flat ? Marc

Determination of the geometry of the Universe has been a central goal of cosmology ever since Hubble discovered its expansion seventy-five years ago. Is it a multidimensional equivalent of the two-dimensional surface of a sheet of paper (" flat "), a sphere (" closed "), or a saddle (" open ")? The geometry determines whether the Universe will expand forever or eventually recollapse, and it may...
